Scott Speed on Wind Tunnel.. Well Kind Of/ WoO vs NST vs Posse/ IRL Testing/ It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp
Wind Tunnel Recap
Dave Despain had a pretty good lineup of guests and covered Open Wheel related topics Sunday night on Wind Tunnel.
Scott Speed
It was good to hear an interview with Scott Speed, the first American to drive in F1 since Michael Andretti. I had two problems with the interview. First it was taped and not live and fans could not ask Speed any questions. Second it was not on camera so viewers were subject to still photos and file footage of Speed.
I want to see Speed. See that he has a pulse. This is where I get frustrated with F1 and just don’t care about their sport. I need to see that their drivers are real people and appear on broadcasts in the US instead of just the lame press conferences following the race. Speed was overseas and it was probably impossible to get him on live but at some point, F1 has to make their driver or drivers available at least once a year to spark our interest.
WoO vs NST
Wind Tunnel touched on it, but it was interesting that NST drivers won WoO Sprint events this past weekend in Arizona. Danny Lasoski won Friday night and
Paul McMahan won Saturday night.
The rest of the A main seemed to be filled with WoO drivers. So is the NST better than the WoO? No. It is too early to be naming a superior series. There will be some teams that will run back and forth and other that will run when the schedule allows. Once again, I hope this doesn’t turn into a Spy vs Spy . I hope the little rivalry works out good for the promoters, series, teams and fans. It will surely make Knoxville interesting.
The Wind Tunnel replay airs at 2 and 10am Monday morning on SPEED.
Crazy PA
There is always a debate over who is better, WoO, now the NST or the PA Posse. Every time this year I check the results and the folks in PA are racing. Gotta be the Posse. Anyone that far north that would start the season this early or race in the cold is either crazy or juts hardcore fans. Oh yea, Memphian, Greg Hodnett won at Lincoln Saturday.
Coons Wins
Congrats to Jerry Coons Jr. for winning the AMRA midget main Friday night at Manzanita

It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp
Gotta get a shout out for the guys from Three 6 Mafia who brought home the first Oscar® for Memphis in music since Isaac Hays and Shaft. Three 6 Mafia won their hardware for the song It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp. Triple Six has been on top of the rap scene since they started and it is nice to see them get the award they disserve. On a personal note, several years ago I shot the aerial film for one of their music videos. Good Job.
