Who Will Win Knoxville?
So, just who do you think will win the Knoxville Nationals? Scroll down to the bottom of this page after reading this update and vote.
Huge Race Weekend
This coming weekend can be considered one of the biggest race weekends of the year. Every series is running with championship titles on the line. Then there is the biggest grass roots Open Wheel race of the year, the Knoxville Nationals. We will give the Nationals the same treatment as we so our coverage of the IRL, CCWS and NASCAR with screen grabs and a summery so join up this weekend for our coverage of one of the biggest race weekends of the year.
Not a Tornado
We start out first tonight with a follow-up to a story we first brought you last week. David Tucek of the National Weather Service’s office located in Indianapolis confirmed today that there were no damage reports from the storm pictured here. There was also no know tornadic activity in the area. I have forwarded these photos to the Indy NWS office for more analysis.
After describing what I saw via the phone, Tucek said it was probably just updrafts associated with a building thunderstorm. If there is an official ruling, I will let you know.
Ralph Sheheen Chats it Up
From his newborn’s first Knoxville Nationals to Udders and dry ribs to an angry mob of swamp buggy drivers, Ralph Sheheen talks about it all in today’s SPEED chat session. Here is the link. http://www.speedtv.com/chat/index.php?action=viewarchivedchat&chat_id=49
PJ Chesson Returns to Knoxville
P.J. Chesson become the first driver to compete in both the Indy 500 and the Knoxville Nationals since Steve Kinser in 1997 this weekend. Chesson will drive the 55K fielded by 2005 Knoxville Raceway track champion VerMeer Motorsports.
“(The car) won a couple of races with (2005 track champions) Kerry Madsen this year, so it should be a good piece,” Chesson said. “We’ll see if rusty old P.J. can do anything with it tomorrow night.”
Apparently Dingus could be a favorite of Chesson this weekend.
“I’m not going to Knoxville to look for a ride,” he said. “I think I’ve found a home in Indy Cars. I just want to have some fun and raise a little hell in Iowa.”
Only 17 drivers have ever competed at both Knoxville and Indianapolis. According to an IRL news release, PJ would be No. 18.
Kinser to Defend Title and Race in Nashville
Reigning Knoxville Nationals Champion Kraig Kinser will be extremely busy this weekend attempting to defend his Knoxville title and at the same time trying to win his first truck race in his rookie season. Kinser will race at 5pm eastern in Nashville then board a plane for Knoxville to make what he hopes will be the A main of the Knoxville Nationals.
“It is going to be a busy weekend for us with me defending my title at the Knoxville Nationals,” said Kinser. “I really appreciate everyone at Morgan-Dollar Motorsports letting me go back and forth between the two tracks to run my sprint car and race the No. 46 CENTRIX Silverado.”
Just the double duty with both races on SPEED should be a good show. The Nationals will also mark the first real showdown between the National Sprint Tour and the World of Outlaws Sprint Series. Over 120 cars are entered for Knoxville But who will win?
Bridesmaid Donny Shatz has been the strongest Outlaw this season but Kraig Dolansky has recently had a hot car.
Steve Kinser is still the King but Danny Lasoski has won the title four times. Terry McCarl is one of the hometown favorites but don’t count out a Pennsylvania Posse member or someone with the last name of Swindell.
Is this the year that a new name will rise to dominance? Find out Saturday night at 10pm eastern on SPEED.
The race will be replayed on SPEED Tuesday August 14th at 12pm eastern and an edited version will air on SPEED at 12pm eastern on September 2nd. The truck race from Nashville airs at 5pm on SPEED.
