Open Wheeler In-Law Second at LMS/ Erin Crocker 18th
Open Wheeler In-Law, Terry Cook finished second to Kyle Busch Friday night at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Cook is the husband of Amy (East) Cook. It was Cook’s best finish of the season so far. The excitement for our Open Wheelers started early as Erin Crocker became the first woman in NASCAR Truck Series race to qualify second.

Crocker and Pole Setter Mike Skinner led the trucks to the green. Boston Reid had one of the best nights of his young career avoiding accidents to finish 16th.

At one point he had a tough battle with Erin Crocker but he persevered and won that battle. Crocker finished 18th and Kraig Kinser came in 19th.

Just think, we almost lost Krista Vota to FOX Pittsburgh. The only thing she did wrong was interrupt Kurt Busch when he was thanking his sponsors. See what happened in Victory Lane by visiting out sister site http://tvvictorylane.blogspot.com/.

Truck Results Lowe’s Motor Speedway
1. (20 Kyle Busch)
2. (10) Terry Cook
16. (25) Boston Reid
17. (15) Kyle Krisiloff
18. (98) Erin Crocker

Smoke Gets His Own Show

The AJ Foyt of my generation, Tony Stewart, will soon have his own show on SIRIUS' new NASCAR Channel. The channel and the show officially debuts in 2007 when NASCAR leaves XM for SIRIUS. The program will air once a week for two hours. You can bet he will be more than happy to talk Open Wheel racing. Matt Yocum will co-host with Stewart. For those of you wondering, according to an executive with the IMS Radio Network I spoke with last season, the IRL will remain on XM. I will attempt to get an update on that item in the next few weeks.

Kasey Kahne Makes Van-O-Babes Happy

The Van-O-Babes should be happy because their man,

Kasey Kahne is on the pole for tomorrow night’s All-Star race.

Kahne and his team had the right combination of a pitstop and fast laps to securely put him on the point.

Three other Open Wheelers made up the top eight starters. Jeff Gordon will start 4th, Ryan Newman 5th and Tony Stewart 8th. We will have a complete wrap up of this race following the event tomorrow night on FX.

All-Star Qualifying
1. 9 Kasey Kahne
4. 24 Jeff Gordon
5. 12 Ryan Newman
8. 20 Tony Stewart
13. 99 Carl Edwards

Tony George and Kevin Kalkhoven to Meet at Indy 500
According to a story in today’s Indianapolis Star written by Curt Cavin,
http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060519/SPORTS01/605190430/1052
Tony George (IRL Owner) and Kevin Kalkhoven (majority owner in Champ Car World Series) are scheduled to discuss reunification during the Indy 500. Cavin reports that folks from the IRL and CCWS have been meeting to work out details of a potential merger. The paper reports that Kevin Kalkhoven says reconciliation by August could still allow for a combined series in 2007. Cavin says contrary to rumors floating around out there, there will be no reunification announcement next week.

Chip Ganassi’s Plane Visits to Newton, Iowa
A plane belonging to Chip Ganassi traveled from Indianapolis, Indiana to Newton, Iowa, home of Iowa Speedway Thursday according to the website Flight Aware.com, the Learjet 45 arrived from Indianapolis at 2:43pm and left for Indy at 5:01pm. I checked with two sources in Iowa and neither could confirm if Ganassi was on the plane or what business he would have in central Iowa.

Indy Practice = Groundhog Day
It must feel like the Movie Groundhog Day for the folks at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It rains. Sam Hornish Jr. takes to the track and gets fast time. The next day is the same. Well today was kind of different. There was a little bit of rain but that didn’t take away too much track time. Sam Hornish was again the fastest car of the day turning a time of 39.4867 at 227.925mph. Dan Weldon and Scott Dixon would bump Hornish off the top spot but then he would come back out and better the two’s time. Danica Patrick was 13th quick today. There will be 33 cars to qualify for the 500. PJ Chesson passed the 220mph mark today. PJ Jones was also on the track today after practice was officially closed, thus not official time on the chart below.
