A Bad Moon Rising
That was the song playing in my head when the race started.
A beautiful full moon shined down on the Open Wheelers as they looked to gain points and hopefully win.
When the green flag dropped, Carl Edwards was on the front row.
But the bad moon would take it’s toll on the Open Wheelers before the night was through.
Just five laps into the race, Aaron Fike’s engine grenaded sending oil out of the engine
and touching off this scary looking fire. Fortunately, Fike was able to walk away.
The bad moon could be blamed for Carl Edwards
Getting into Ryan Newman
And sending him for a spin. Newman would recover but finish a lap down.
The moon returned and Tony Stewart
Got into Joel Kauffman. Stewart would finish 29th. The last car on the lead lap.
Denny Hamlin would win the race but not drink a Coke in victory lane on camera after two were handed to him. Was it the moon? See what else happened in Victory Lane by visiting out sister site http://tvvictorylane.blogspot.com/.

USAC Points Pay
Thursday, USAC announced that the 2006 Silver Crown points fund is paying $250,000 for the 20 top spots.
This has apparently caused new Silver Crown pavement teams to look for a partner on the dirt side in order to have a chance at the top point fund money. According to a post on the Indiana Open Wheel.com message board Greg Furlong’s team is looking for that partner. Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing is planning on running both the dirt and pavement. The team will announce next week that it will field the No. 99 and No. 35 dirt cars with drivers TBA.
USAC Media Guide gets Makeover
The good folks at USAC worked hard this spring to produce a new look media guide. The 2006 version will have a different size but still contain the same content media members and teams need. The changes came about because of the additional series that USAC now sanctions. This year’s edition actually has fewer pages than in previous years. The new media guide should be out in late May.
USAC’s Website Gets a Boost
On the subject of USAC and their graphics and PR department, the sanctioning body’s website http://www.usacracing.com/ is also getting a lift.
The website is now featuring more articles and images that you won’t see anywhere else like the article on how the National Sprints division has seen a different winner in all eight races so far this season. The graphic showing all eight drivers was a nice touch too.

About PJ Chesson’s Speed
The 181st Fighter Wing located at Hulman Field in Terre Haute, Indiana will take on probably the best driver in the IRL for this job. P.J. Chesson with fly with in the “Racer” F-16D Fighting Falcon on May 15. If there is anyone that would enjoy the rush of a fighter jet, it would be P.J. Prior to takeoff, P.J. Chesson will receive extensive safety and emergency procedures training. Knowing PJ, he probably would wait to bail out of the jet until the last second to maximize the thrill.
