Johnson Wins All-Star Race/ Penske Claims 14th 500 Pole/ Why No TV for Pole Day?/ Qualifying 101/ DP Deals with Stress/ Patrick a St.Pauli Girl
Johnson Wins, Open Wheelers 3,4,5
Kasey Kahne scored the pole for the event but
Ryan Newman lead the group to the restart after the inversion. Kahne’s good fortunine would not last long as he got loose
and got into Mark Martin
touching off this seven car accident. Kahne would finish fourteenth.
Tony Stewart got tagged by another car but was able to drive back to pit road for repairs. Ryan Newman and Carl Edwards missed the maylay. Harvick and Edwards restarted on the front row. Harvick won the second segment and Edwards was third. In the third segment, Carl Edwards made contact with the wall but kept on going. The same can not be said for Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth
who got together in turn one and both went into the wall. Jimmy Johnson won the event.
His teammate, Jeff Gordon finished third while Carl Edwards and Ryan Newman finished fourth and fifth respectively. See what happened in Victory Lane by visiting out sister site http://tvvictorylane.blogspot.com/.
Open Wheeler Crewmember takes a Dive
One of the fun thingsd about the All-Star race is that you never know what is going to happen when they introduce the drivers and teams. Some Open Wheelers played conservative. Carl Edwards came out, waved to the crowd and so did
Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne and Jeff Gordon. Kyle Busch (not and Open Wheeler but noteable) came out to boos, he reacted by cupping his hand to his ear, then his team surrounded him and promptly fell down to the ground, revealing their driver.
That was cool. Then Busch and his team donned sunglasses, yes at night.
Ryan Newman out did Busch’s team as they came out dressed as pimps.
(Must be 3 Six Mafia fans.)
One of his crew members did a stage dive.
The crowd quickly moved and he landed on the asphalt.
He was ok and quickly got back to the stage with his team. The “Red Hot Chili Peppers” took the stage and performed during the intermission.
I prefer the Chili Bowl over the Chili Peppers.
Zero Open Wheelers Transfer
Not one of the five Open Wheelers in the Nextel Open transferred to the main event.
Casey Mears slammed the wall but held on to it and kept his car from sliding up and taking out the field. He finished last. Scott Rigs won the Open.

Penske Claims His 14th 500 Pole
Roger Penske continued his dominance at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, collecting his team’s 14th pole. Sam Hornish Jr. brought the pole (228.985) home for Team Penske.
Hornish has been dominant in practice all month. Team Penske also clamed the second spot as
Helio Castroneves turned in a time (228.008) good for second quick. Dan Weldon rounds out the front row with a time of 227.228.
Marco Andretti was the fastest rookie besting his father’s (Michael Andretti) time 224.918 to 224.508. Marco qualified 9th and Michael 13th. Danica Patrick timed in 10th. She told ESPN that she feels like she got all out of the car that she could get. Little Al, Al Unser Jr. timed in 27th at 219.388. Three grass roots open wheelers made the field. Ed Carpenter qualified 12th at 224.548. PJ Chesson timed in 20th at 221.576.
PJ Jones took the 32nd position at 215.816. We might see another grass roots open wheeler fill the 33rd spot tomorrow on Bump Day if Thiago Medeiros and his PDM Racing crew
can get his car put back together after an accident earlier this week. The PDM acquired another chassis from Adrian Fernandez. Jimmy Kite is also reportedly in the pits looking for a ride.

Why No TV for Pole Day?
The ABC/ESPN networks allotted for time to broadcast qualifying last weekend but rain washed out the plans for qualifying live on TV. Unfortunately prior commitments kept ESPN from televising the early qualifying live today. By the time the network came on the air at 5pm eastern, all 32 cars had timed in. Live Bump Day coverage is scheduled to air beginning at 1pm on ABC. The broadcast will then shift to ESPN2 at 5pm.
Qualifying 101
ABC/ESPN got together with Danica Patrick, ABC TV personalities and drivers from NASCAR and the NHRA to help explain how qualifying at Indy is different from anywhere else.
The segment titled Indy Qualifying 101 is hosted by IRL spokes woman, I mean driver, Danica Patrick.
Danica Patrick Deals with Indy Stress
A year ago, Danica Patrick was the center of attention. Every news and sports network wanted an interview and a piece of the story.
Patrick tells ESPN that it is still crazy this year but she has learned to deal with it.
“This year it has been more work on the track,” said Patrick. “I am tired from that and the media. You know, you have to take advantage of when it is there. You know.. its not there forever. You have to play the part and be there for your fans.”
Patrick a St. Pauli Girl?
I guess Danica Patrick is now an official St. Pauli Girl. The German beer company is now on her car for the Indy 500.
