The IRL at Watkins Glen
Watkins Glen, NY - Welcome to our coverage of this weekend’s IRL race at Watkins Glen. It has rained on and off today here while teams have been setting up for this weekend’s event. A couple of notes to get us started. First who is not here. After loosing two cars at the Indy 500 last weekend, P.J. Chesson and the Carmelo/ Hemelgarn Racing team will not be at Watkins Glen. Neither will his brother James Chesson nor Jeff Dodge in the Pro Series. There have been a lot of buzz about and Associated Press article about Sam Hornish basically saying never say never to running in NASCAR. Sam is not going anywhere anytime soon. You never know where life is going to take you next but for now, it is not NASCAR. I haven’t interviewed Sam on the subject but I am sure he would like to claim another championship. So far, he and his teammate Helio Castroneves have a good chance at winning one for the Captain. The IRL IndyCar Series has as many races on their schedule (14) this season as USAC’s Silver Crown division. The IRL will utilize a unique form of qualifying this weekend. Live video of qualifying and practice sessions will be available on the IRL’s website http://www.indyracing.com/ much like it was during much of the month of May. The Indy Pro Series will run their 50th race this season. Do you have a question you would like to see answered this weekend at Watkins Glen? Email me at johnsonbjv@aol.com and I will attempt to have it answered for you.
