Answer to Who is this Guy?
After having him host SPEED News last weekend, Speed VP of Studio Production Chris Long announced Friday that Drew Johnson will join Bob Varsha and Connie LeGrand to anchor SPEED News for good.
"He has the racing knowledge, the look and the charisma to energize the show a little bit,” said Long in a news release.
So who is this guy? According to the release, Johnson (no relation to me) has worked as a sports director at Palm Springs, Calif., and Terre Haute, Ind. He comes from a grass roots Open Wheel background covering sprint car and modified racing at tracks in the Midwest, and provided trackside radio reports for multiple events at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The release goes on to say that Johnson has spent some time Dirt Modifieds and sprint cars.
CCWS Announces Announcers
Cameron Steele moves over to Champ Car World Series after a short stint in the IRL last season Steele was bad at best but the rest of CCWS’s broadcast team will make up the lag. Derek Daly, Jon Beekhuis and program host Rick Benjamin will call all of the races this season. Former F1 and CCWS driver Daily takes the microphone for his 21st season of television work. Benjamin returns for his third season in the booth. Beekhuis and Steele will cover the race from pit lane. CBS, NBC and SPEED will carry CCWS in 2006.
RIP Boom Boom
In the 1950’s and 1960’s, there was no better team than the Montreal Canadians. They set the standard for others to follow. One of their players Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion changed the face of the sport when he invented the slap shot. According to the AP, Mr. Geoffrion passed away today. Our thoughts are with his family.
