Tatnell Earns Driver of the Year/ Erin Crocker Now Leads in Votes/ Melanie Troxel Leads SPEED’s DOTY/ Another One for thDanica Patrick Visits the Boss

Tatnell Earns Australian Driver of the Year
I try not to write about the exact same things you could find on TJ Slideways or Hoseheads but I can’t help it this time. I have had the pleasure of working around the top two finishing drivers in this year’s Australian Sprintcar Poll. For the third time in his career, Brooke Tatnell claimed first place in the poll.

Donny Schatz received the second most votes. Tatnell was this season’s World Series Sprintcars point champion. Congratulations to the two drivers on their accomplishments.

Erin Crocker Now Leads in Votes
Erin Crocker is now in sole position of first place in voting for the title of “race babe.”

Fellow redhead, Veronica McCann is tied for second with SPEED hottie Krista Voda. Vote for your favorite “race babe” by scrolling to the bottom of the page.

Melanie Troxel Leads SPEED’s DOTY
The NHRA’s Melanie Troxel won the first quarter voting for the SPEED Driver of the Year award. IndyCar Series points Helio Castroneves was second. Open Wheeler's, Kasey Kahne and Tony Stewart, Driver of the Year 2005, also garnered first-place ballots. A separate one-driver vote will determine the 2006 Driver of the Year. Melanie Troxel is the first woman to win in the quarterly voting in the history of the award.

Another One for the Captain

No owner had been more successful during the month of May at Indy than Roger Penske. The Captain has 13 wins, 12 poles in 72 starts with 19 different drivers since 1969. Penske Racing has had 9 winning drivers, won 5 times from the pole, had 31 front row starts and has led the 500 for a total of 1,786 laps. My best is on Sam Hornish or Spiderman winning the 500.

Danica Patrick Visits the Boss

Danica Patrick appeared last night on Late Night with David Letterman as part of her tour to promote her autobiography.

Patrick drives for the Rahal-Letterman team that David Letterman is a co-owner.

Danica Patrick started off the interview by talking about the book Danica Crossing the Line.

She and Letterman then talked about her new marriage.

Says her husband, a massage therapist by trade helps her out at the track but she has had to learn massage therapy and massage her husband. Letterman wipped out a copy of People Magazine and Patrick said it was a dream of here to be in that publication.

Danica Patrick talked about the loss of her teammate, Paul Dana. “We know the danger is there. It is sad when something that tragic happens but we have to go on. The series goes to every extent possible to make sure we are safe out there.” They talked about Ethanol, a product that Paul Dana brought to the IRL.

The boss, (Letterman) asked how the team was doing race wise. Letterman and Patrick then talked about the Indy 500 and Letterman asked her to win the 500 this season. I guess when the boss asks, you say, (like Helio) “Yes boss.” Later this week we will look at the Secret commercial staring Danica Patrick.
