Kevin Harvick Wins, Tony Stewart Second
Kevin Harvick won his third NASCAR race in a row tonight in the Valley of the Sun. Open Wheelers Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards important points with top five finishes at Phoenix International Raceway.
Tony Stewart started the race last after being penalized by NASCAR for having to change tires. The Open Wheeler drove to the front and led for several laps during the race. He would finish 2nd to Harvick.
Carl Edwards also had to come from the back after slight contact on pit road early in the race. The crew fixed the damage and Edwards finished 4th. Kasey Kahne finished 6th and Jeff Gordon came in 10th at a track where he has scored a Silver Crown win before.
Dave Blaney’s car hit the turn one wall early. He finished 27th.
JJ Yeley was leading on his home track but spun out in turn 4 later in the race. In true Open Wheeler fashion, he stood on the gas spinning all the way around and promptly drove away needing only new tires. He would finish 28th.
Ryan Newman got into a mess not of his own making when Dale Earnhardt Jr. hit Kyle Petting causing several cars to spin in turn 4. Newman finished 39th.
Even though Kevin Harvick is not an Open Wheeler, I have to admit the burnout and spraying of Steve Byrnes in Victory Lane with Coke was pretty impressive.
Speaking of Victory Lane, check out a new sister website to Open Wheeler, http://tvvictorylane.blogspot.com/ provides a summery of what went on in Victory Lane following the race.

Focus on the Dirt
NASCAR Raceday on SPEED focused on short tracks importance to big time racing.
The SPEED cameras visited Paducah International Speedway, a track co-owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Ken Schrader.
The story talked about how people like Jr., Ken Schrader and Tony Stewart are investing in short tracks saying short tracks are the developmental grounds for the next level.
Tony Stewart showed up in Paducah unannounced to run his late model there on “NASCAR Night.”
Team Penske in the House
Helio Castroneves and Sam Hornish flew to Phoenix with their owner Roger Penske following Castroneves’ win at Motegi earlier in the day.
The teammates were hoping to spread some good luck to their NASACAR teammates Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman.
Helio also was interviewed by Speed about Tony Stewart’s fence climbing technique. Helio said Stewart is doing a great job.
If you look in the background of this image, you will see the Captain talking to Busch and Newman prior to the race.
