Open Wheeler guides Busch Rookie to first Win
Sprint Car competitor Billy Wilburn and NASCAR Busch Series crew chief guided rookie David Gillilad to his first Busch Series win at Kentucky Saturday night.
Carl Edwards won the 2005 Busch Series event at Kentucky but he would not repeat tonight.
Starting outside the pole, he would have transmission problems on the first lap and would head to the garage. He finished 26 laps down on 36th.
Jason Leffler would not see victory lane tonight.
The USAC driver would spin on the backstretch. Jeff Fuller attemped to miss the spinning Leffler
And appeared to purposely put himself in a spin to avoid t-boneing Leffler.
Fuller would hit the inside wall hard and
His car burst into flames. According to the Associated Press, Jeff Fuller was transported to University of Kentucky Hospital via helicopter.
Later in the race, Burney Lamar would go around with a little bit of help from Clint Boyer.
It looked like J.J. Yeley would claim his first win in the Busch Series but the Billy Wilburn crewed No. 84 driven by David Gilliland had other plans. Gilliland drove by Yeley with three to go
And held off the former USAC driver to win the race.
Wilburn, who has driven in several races in the World of Outlaws Sprint Series appeared very happy after the race. It was the team’s and the drivers first Busch Series win.
The win also marks the first time this season that a Cup driver has not won the Busch race. See what happened after the checkered flag fell by visiting our sister website http://tvvictorylane.blogspot.com/.

Kasey Kahne almost Looses Pole
One day after claiming the pole for Sunday’s Cup race at Michigan, Kasey Kahne almost lost it when he spun and hit the Turn 2 wall during final practice Saturday. Fortunately, Kahne was not injured and the damage to the No. 9 was not severe enough to require the team to use its backup car. Utilizing a backup car would have made him start from the rear of the field. Jeff Gordon will start from outside the pole, making it an all Open Wheeler front row.
