Open Wheelers Struggle at Texas
With Kraig Kinser starting right behind the pole sitter, it looked like it would be a good night for Open Wheelers at Texas Motor Speedway Friday night. Unfortunately that was not the case.

The moon is not officially full until Sunday night but that did not stop the bad luck our Open Wheelers would face.

Just 8 laps into the race Kraig Kinser began dropping back into the pack.

Fearing a potential tire going down, Bobby East came in for an early pit stop. East would end up finishing 28th. On lap 55, Kraig Kinser made contact with another truck on restart as the pack bunched up.

Both radiator and oil cooler were punctured. The team was forced to pull the No. 46 behind the wall.

"I am disappointed for Randy (Goss, crew chief) and everyone on the team,” said Kinser. “We had a good truck and had a great qualifying effort but I spun the tires on the initial start and lost a lot of track position. I was just starting to get my rhythm when we had the contact. I was hoping to have a good run tonight but it just didn't work out for us."

Kinser would finish dead last.

Fast forward to Lap 116 where Erin Crocker droped off the pace. Her day was also done. Todd Bodine took the lead on the last lap away from Mike Skinner to win his third truck race of the season. See what Todd Bodine did after the checkered flag fell by visiting our sister website http://tvvictorylane.blogspot.com/.

Good News about Krista Voda
One final note from the truck race, apparently Krista Voda is still single. Friday night, SPEED had the Iowa native hos the Craftsman Tools of the Trade Segment.

Notice that she does not have either a wedding ring or engagement ring. That should make some of you happy.

The IRL is Trapped Again

It seems like every time I go to an IRL race, something else is going on in town or there is another big sporting event running head to head with it on TV. Whether it is the PGA, NFL or in this case this weekend, the NBA Playoffs, the IRL has to fight for headlines. Unfortunately, 99% of the time there is nothing that the IRL schedule makes can do to prevent it. Fortunately this weekend the IRL is at their best track outside of Indy andhas the best promoter in the industry in Eddie Gossage.

Saturday night will be a tough call as the NHL Playoffs on NBC and the Busch Series at Nashville on FX go head to head with the IRL at Texas on ESPN. The IRL has two things going for it Saturday night: 1. ESPN, they are the 800lb gorilla in sports broadcasting. 2. This should be one of the most exciting races of the season with the pole setter and the back marker only separated by half a second. Saturday night should be a great night of TV. Of course I will have to break out the VCR to tape the Busch and NHL Playoffs. I can't miss the IRL at Texas live. Of course as always, we will recap the IndyCar Series and Busch races with images as well as a wrap-up of what happened in Victory Lane http://tvvictorylane.blogspot.com/ following the race Saturday night.

Lawn Mower Man
Sam Hornish Jr. will start on the pole for tonight's IndyCar Series race at Texas.

It is his third pole this season which means it is the third time this year he will receive a Toro lawn mower. If he keeps this up, he can open up his own lawn service company.

In other notes, Dan Wheldon who qualified second will start on the front row for the first time this season and it is also his best start at Texas Motor Speedway. Helio Castroneves qualified third.

Don't Count out the Panther Pack

Five of the fifteen wins in the history of Panther Racing have come at Texas Motor Speedway. Scott Goodyear captured two victories at TMS (1999, 2000), Sam Hornish won twice (2001, 2002) and Thomas Scheckter crossed the finish line first last June, giving Panther its 15th career victory.

Stenhouse Wins at Crossville
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. won the USCS Sprint car race Friday night at Crossville Raceway in Crossville, Tennessee. Stenhouse won his heat and started 6th in the feature. When the green flag dropped, the Olive Branch, Mississippi native took his time moved the 40R Dynotech powered J&J Auto Racing entry through the field and caught up to race leader Mike Ward. Stenhouse battled Ward, running side by side for several laps with the veteran driver before taking the lead with about 12 laps to go. The win was Stenhouse’s third USCS victory in seven attempts. The 40R team and the USCS Series heads to Atomic Motor Speedway in Kingston, Tennessee Saturday night.
