Qualifying Washed Out, Well Kind Of
Watkins Glen, NY – The ugly weather looks pretty good to Helio Castroneves.
The IndyCar Series cancelled today’s qualifying which gave the Brazilian the pole because he was quickest overall in Friday’s practice sessions.
The IRL’s on track actrivities because the low ceiling would not allow the medical helicopter to fly into the track. Once the weather cleared and the helicopter could fly in, the IRL ran a practice session. Thomas Scheckter was fastest in that session. Helio was 14th. The Penske car sat in the pits for most of the session while Castroneves and his teammate Sam Hornish watched.
When the 2006 Indy 500 champ did hit the track, he timed in 7th.
Buddy Rice spun in turn one and needed assistance getting off of the ledge and going again.
Rice was 9th quick today.
Danica Patrick was 8th quick today.
