Rainy Saturday/ Jerry Coons is King Doodlebug/ Aaron Fike to Drive for Kevin Harvick/ Edwards 2nd, Martin Wins
Rainy Saturday
Watkins Glen, NY – Good morning from a damp Watkins Glen. While the rain, wind and fog are rolling over the hills around the track, we will see activity on the track today.
The fog is keeping the medical helicopter from arriving at the track which is keeping the IRL off the track. The nearest trauma hospital is 30 minutes away by ambulance. The Grand Am Series has already been out on the track. Unlike ovals, the IRL will run in the rain on Firestone Firehawk rain tires. The Pro Series practiced last season in the rain at Watkins Glen but has never run a race in the rain. That shouldn’t matter after 11am. The National Service reports and radar confirms that this storm system will move out in time for qualifying.
Jerry Coons is King Doodlebug
Arizona native Jerry Coons Jr. won the King Doodlebug Classic Friday night at Knoxville Raceway. The win was his first of the season in the USAC National Midget Series. Coons is the favorite to win the Knoxville Midget Nationals tonight.
Aaron Fike to Drive for Kevin Harvick
USAC’s 2001 Silver Crown Rookie of the Year, Aaron Fike will drive for Kevin Harvick for select races for the rest of the 2006 season. KHI fields the No. 33 that Tony Stewart drove last weekend at Charlotte and at Talladega.
Hopefully Fike won’t get upside down like Stewart did at Dega. No word if he will continue to drive for the Curb-Agajanian team. In addition to Fike’s time in USAC, he also drove two seasons in the Indy Pro Series and some races in the ARCA Re/Max Series.
Jeff Gordon will make his 450th career Cup start at Dover this weekend.
Edwards 2nd, Martin Wins
Carl Edwars finished second to teammate Mark Martin Friday night at the Truck Series race at Dover. Mike Bliss finished 4th.
Dover Truck Results
1. (6 Mark Martin)
2. 60 Carl Edwards
4. 16 Mike Bliss
16. 10 Terry Cook
17. 21 Bobby East
24. 98 Erin Crocker
27. 15 Kyle Krisiloff
31. 46 Kraig Kinser
