Brian Tyler Back on Top
This season has had its ups and downs for Brian Tyler and his team. They won the second race of the year at Homestead in a great battle with Aaron Pierce. The team looked like it would win it’s second race of the season at Milwaukee but a tap from Aaron Pierce sent Tyler spinning out of first place. The points race has gone back and forth ever since with Bud Kaeding winning two races then Tyler defeating Carl Edwards to win at ORP. The next night Brian Tyler and his team were done early as a result of a multi car pileup while Kaeding went on to take the win. Saturday at Springfield, the ball bounced back into Tyler’s court. Kaeding came into Springfield with a 18 point lead over Tyler. This time it was Kaeding who was forced to retire early. Tyler went on to finish second taking a 26 point lead with him.
“You always want to win but we had a left rear tire vibrating real bad from about halfway in,” stated Tyler. “There at the end from halfway down the straightaway it was a big blur getting off the corner but we held on for second. It was a big points day. Bud had some bad luck like I did last week at Terre Haute. It is racing and you have to be consistent and look at the big picture and if second was as good as we were today we will take it and go to the next race and you know maybe we will be first there.”
Brian Tyler and his No. 21 Team Six R crew will take the points lead into DuQuoin a week from this Sunday. The USAC veteran is not worried about who has the points lead but is more concerned about finishing up front.
“It is too early to worry about points. I have never been a person that worries about points. You know I figure if I run hard and run upfront every race, the points will be there. I let my crew and the rest of the guys worry about the points that way I don’t have to think about it.”
Bud Kaeding looks to get back on Tyler’s heals at DuQuoin. With a strong contingent of drivers and cars this year, anything could happen. We will be there to cover it for you right here on Open Wheeler.
