Open Wheel Vegas Wrap
NASCAR Victory Lane did a great job of wrapping up today’s Cup race from Las Vegas.
The program let us hear from several Open Wheelers on their finish. Today’s race was not a stellar event for Open Wheelers. Ken Schrader’s day went bad when a tire rub caused him to pit finishing 41st.
The day was worse for Ryan Newman who finished last after blowing a tire early in the race sending him into the wall. Robby Gordon told Speed’s Bob Dillner on NASCAR Victory Lane that his independent team is happy with the finish. Gordon said the next few weeks will be critical to get into the top 35 for the automatic seat in the show for qualifying. Gordon is 17th in owner’s points.
Jeff Gordon finished fifth after rubbing with Greg Biffle.
Tony Stewart had a bad day after tangling with an irate Kyle Busch. Busch told Speed’s Dillner that:
“He did not know why Stewart was mad at Busch. I don’t feel like there was anything that I gave him a hard time about.”
Yea, like aggressive driving? Stewart led 54 laps Sunday and stayed in the top five until the last few laps when he had a tire rubbing and fell back into the pack, finishing 21st. Tony Stewart declined to talk to SPEED. Kasey Kahne was happy with his top five finish. Kahne told Speed’s Bob Dillner on NASCAR Victory Lane that the team is much improved top to bottom. NASCAR Victory Lane will reair at 1am, 9am and 6pm Monday Eastern on SPEED.
