Pierce on the Pole 12:30pm
JOLIET, Ill. – USAC veteran Aaron Pierce is on the pole for today’s USG Fiberock 100. Pierce turned a time of 30.982 or 174.295mph on the 1.5 mile oval. This is the Indiana native’s second pole of the season.
“Car was good in practice,” said Pierce. “The speeds are slower than the test because it is hotter. Tonight we are going to save our tires and stay out of trouble to try to win. Drafting will be a big deal here tonight.”
Even though, today’s schedule is elongated by the NASCAR Nextel Cup and Busch Series, running with NASCAR could pay off.
“Being here with Busch and Cup will be good,” said Pierce. “Hopefully we can pull one off tonight in front of everyone.”
Jay Drake will start outside the pole tonight. Drake turned a time of 31.089 in his second weekend in the No. 41 car. Reigning USAC Silver Crown Champion Dave Steele qualified third with a time of 31.520. Five cars did not qualify due to mechanical issues. All are expected to start tonight.
