Dana and Carpenter in Major Accident/ IRL Update/ Snow Didn’t Stop Bristol
Dana and Carpenter in Major Accident
According to a report on this morning’s SportsCenter on ESPN. Paul Dana and Ed Carpenter were involved in a major accident in this morning’s IRL IndyCar Series practice session. Watching the video on ESPN, Ed Carpenter spun striking the wall in turn two. He slid down the banking and appeared to come to a rest where he was then struck by Paul Dana at what appeared to be a good rate of speed. Dana and Carpenter were airlifted to a Level One Trauma Center in Miami. Paul Dana sat out most of the 2005 IndyCar Series season after suffering a hard hit in turn two at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2005. I will refer you to the IRL’s website, http://www.indyracingleague.com for more details as this website will not have enough immediate details to be fair to the two drivers families, friends, team, sponsors and fans. My thoughts are with both of the drivers and their families this morning.
On a more positive note, the media turnout has been good all week. Danica Patrick is on the front page of today’s Miami Herald.
The track expects a good walkup for today’s event. Last night’s Grand Am race had a crowd but not a large one but then again, neither did the Silver Crown race. The track is competing with the USTA tennis tournament that is town this weekend.
Snow Didn’t Stop Bristol
Bushc Series crewmembers were making snowmen on pit road earlier this weekend but somehow, NASCAR got the Busch race in Saturday. Carl Edwards finished fifth. Tracy Hines had his best Busch finish of the season, coming in 13th. Kyle Busch won the event.
