USAC to Use Wicker Bills at Homestead
The United States Auto Club has sent notice to its competitors in the Silver Crown division that is will allow wicker bills to be used on the new generation cars at Homestead. The notice included diagrams that demonstrated where the devices should be placed and the angle. The wicker bills helped the stability of the new car at the Open Test at Homestead last month. Expect to see more rule changes and revisions as USAC works with its competitors to develop the best racing conditions in the first year of the new generation pavement car.
On another somewhat related note, I have learned that the protest that was filed at Phoenix regarding the C&R cars has been thrown out. The first full season of racing will iron out little wrinkles that come along. Owen Snyder and the rest of his co-workers at USAC are endeavoring to make the new generation car a success. I believe with Mr. Snyder’s leadership, they will do so.
More Info on New Series Tonight
Jason McCord will join former USAC National Series Coordinator Jason Smith on the Autosport Show. The pair are expected to talk about their new series which will utilize the now outdated older Silver Crown pavement chassis. As we reported Friday, the series could run up to seven races this season. The Autosport Show airs at 7:00pm eastern online at www.autosportradio.com and click on where indicated. Marty Reid and Scott Goodyear are also scheduled to be guests on the program.
Gene Simmons + Carmelo Anthony = P.J. Chesson
Carmelo Anthony, Ron Hemelgarn, P.J. Chesson and Gene Simmons will announce during a press conference tomorrow at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway that NBA star Anthony will team with Simmons to sponsor Chesson’s 2006 IndyCar campaign. The Denver Nuggets will take on the Indiana Pacers later that evening.
Hines’ Busch Crew Chief in Trouble
NASCAR announced Tuesday that Eddie Buffington, crew chief of the No. 14 Dodge driven by Tracy Hines in the NASCAR Busch Series, has been penalized due to rules violations at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The trouble apparently stems from and unapproved rear end gear ratio. The infraction was discovered during opening-day inspection on March 10.
