Kinser Climbs Out of the Truck For Now
Jim Utter of the Charlotte Observer is reporting that Kriag Kinser will not drive the No. 46 Morgan Dollar Motorsports NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series entry for the next few races. Utter reports that Kinser will instead drive some races in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. The young Open Wheeler is a developmental driver for MB2 Motorsports.
“Our original plan was to run Kraig in about 20 (Truck) races, then we had an opportunity to run the whole season but now some things have changed business climate-wise,” MB2 general manager Jay Frye told the Charlotte Observer adding, “Our commitment to Kraig is more than it’s ever been.”
We may still see Kinser in a truck before the season is over. Frye told the newspaper that MB2 has long range plans for Kraig Kinser. The complete article can be seen here. http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/sports/motorsports/15471673.htm
Stewart Wrecks at Richmond
Tony Stewart wrecked his primary Cup car at Richmond during practice today. Is that a good or bad thing for the Open Wheeler who is trying to make the Chase? In 2004, Stewart wrecked during practice at Chicagoland and won the race in a backup car. He was not hurt in today’s accident.
IndyCar Series Championship by the Numbers
Sam Hornish has more starts than the other three drivers that are all in the running for the IndyCar Series Championship this weekend. Hornish also has the most wins with two, both while driving for Team Panther. He also has recorded more laps led at 155 than any of the other drivers and looks to be the favorite for the weekend. Both Helio Castroneves and Dan Weldon has four starts but Weldon is the only of the four that has a win besides Hornish. All have led races at the 1.5 mile facility but Weldon and Hornish have led the most races with three. Castroneves in the points leader but has never won at Chicagoland nor has he ever won and IRL title. He only have tow top fives in four events there. Scott Dixon has only led one lap at Chicagoland and only has one top five in three events at Chicagoland but he does have a title under his belt. My prediction? Hornish will win the championship after a miscue eliminates Weldon and Helio will finish second. Scott Dixon will finish third in points.
Maybe Open Wheelers Should be Banned from Singing at Wrigley
You know I am an advocate for Open Wheel drivers but I am also a realist. Maybe it is time for Open Wheelers to decline invitations for sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” at Wrigley Field. A while back Jeff Gordon did it and forgot the words. Thursday, Danica Patrick remembered all of the words but sang very off key. Patrick was doing so well there. She will be racing in her hometown this weekend and did a good job of throwing out the first pitch which was dead on and sunk just before crossing the plate. Pretty good considering she is not a ball player. The former Roscoe, Illinois cheerleader then went to lead the hometown crowd in the song. She was there at times but other times she was quite off key. At least she didn’t forget the words. Note to Open Wheelers: You now have a bad reputation at pulling off the song. If you are invited, kindly decline and just throw out the first pitch.
Red Hot Ronni Third IPS Female
Veronica McCann will become only the third woman to drive in the Indy Pro Series this weekend at Chicagoland.
“My goal is to finish the race,” said McCann. “I'm quietly confident about the race. I don't know how well I'll fare against the other drivers until I’m out on the track in practice, but like I said, I'm quietly confident."As we have previously reported, McCann is looking for rides for the 2007 season here in the States.
"I wanted to run in America on paved ovals," she said. "It was strictly a career move. I've driven sprint cars for five years, and there are very few sprint car drivers who can make a career out of it. I was up for a change."
Veronica McCann was third quick out of 18 cars in the first practice session today. She also had made contact in turn four and spun. Her right rear was the only part that received any damage.
PRA Plans to Impress
The PRA has had a good season so far in its first year as a sanctioning organization. The Big Car Series has delivered exciting races at venues throughout the US. The series returns to Indianapolis next Wednesday for it’s final home appearance. The Jasper Engines and Transmissions Circle City 100 presented by the Sagamore Health Network has already received commitments from both Ryan Newman and Ken Schrader. Newman is my pick to win running in the Hoffman Auto Racing No. 69. The last time the series was at ORP, Carl Edwards was the winner. The Big Car Series is coming off of an exciting run at Stafford Motor Speedway on August 15th where Bobby Santos III took the checkered flag and a $50,000 bonus after winning both the midget race and the Big Car Series race. Qualifying is set for 6pm and the 100 lap feature at 7:30pm.
